Mental health

I am delighted to be the lead GP for the Mental Health workstream for the CCG.

Overall our aim is to move to commissioning mental health services which are able to intervene early on when people start to have problems, help them recover quickly and widen the scope of currently rather traditional services. This is not going to happen overnight but we are making a start by focusing on specific projects.

The CCG’s ambition for Mental Health is:

  • that mental health provision will be open and accessible to all people who need it regardless of their age and the diagnosis and severity of their mental health condition and include those marginalised from society. No mental health service user should need to be returned to their GP for onward referral for another mental health service
  • to commission mental health and learning disability services which are integrated with the wider health and social system and which support the recognition that people’s mental health should be seen as part of their overall physical and mental wellbeing

Primary Care Mental Health Service: Wellbeing Suffolk

The Wellbeing Suffolk Service commenced from 1 September 2016, provided by Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust. The service contract includes:

  • An all age pathway with a strong family based approach
  • Working closer with primary care services through Primary Mental Health Workers
  • Integrated physical and mental health pathways for people with long term conditions
  • Is as accessible as general primary care, offering open access and local services
  • Providing pathways into secondary care mental health services
  • Providing training and development of the wider workforce in understanding mental health and offering early support to promote emotional wellbeing
