Clinicians urge people to start New Year by getting Covid jab with thousands of slots available

Clinicians across Suffolk and north east Essex are urging those people who are still eligible to receive their coronavirus jabs to start 2022 by getting the vaccine.

According to latest data for the system, 137,251 people are currently eligible for the booster vaccine and have yet to come forward.

Since the accelerated Covid booster vaccination started on 13 December, health services across Suffolk and north east Essex have provided nearly 190,000 vaccinations.

During this time, 17,589 people have taken the opportunity to receive their first, second or third vaccination - this offer remains open to all who are eligible.

Leaders say there continues to be widespread provision across the area with dozens of clinics and thousands of walk-in and booked appointments available across local towns and rural communities.

Suffolk GP, Dr Richard West, said: “Do the right thing – protect yourself, your family, vulnerable members of the community by getting the COVID booster vaccination.

“You would not want to be the one responsible for passing the variant around within your local community or putting others, more vulnerable than you, at unnecessary risk.

“Two Covid jabs is not enough and with soaring cases of Omicron, everyone needs to ensure they receive their booster vaccination and to do their bit for society.

“NHS staff and volunteers continue to work incredibly hard to make sure there is plenty of provision over the new year period so whether it's your first, second or booster jab I urge you to book an appointment now and get your vaccination today.

“If you have any questions or concerns, please come and speak to us and we’ll be happy to give you scientific evidence-based advice."
