This news follows the announcement earlier this week that all older peoples care homes have been offered the vaccine – highlighting the really good work that’s happening locally to successfully implement the biggest vaccination programme in the history of the NHS.
Dr Ed Garratt, who leads the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System, said: “These figures show a big acceleration in people most at-risk getting their vaccination, and reflect the increase in the number of sites we now have up and running across Suffolk and north east Essex.
“We are determined to keep up this momentum, and it is important to pay tribute to and thank the staff, volunteers and partners who are working so hard to make this vaccination programme a success, and I want to reiterate that anyone invited to get their jab should come forward and do so.”
* Latest figures reveal that from January 24, 71% of the over 80s in the Suffolk and North East Essex ICS area have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination, a near doubling in numbers over last week’s figure of 36%.
* There are now 20 vaccination centres spread across the patch, in addition to the large vaccination centre which opened on Tuesday at Gainsborough Sports Centre and with others to be announced soon.
* We have vaccinated in all care homes where it’s been safe to do so and within public health guidance. For the small number of cases where residents or staff were not able to be vaccinated at the point in time the team attended, or due to safety restrictions, the team will return to vaccinate them at the earliest possible opportunity.
