One millionth COVID-19 vaccination administered

A landmark has been reached as the 1,000,000th dose of COVID-19 vaccine has been administered in the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) area.

The 1,000,000th dose has been delivered by the team from the area’s mobile vaccination ‘bus when it visited the Bond Street Mosque in Ipswich on Friday, May 21st.

It is hoped that reaching this milestone will encourage those eligible people who have not yet come forward to book a vaccination appointment to do so and protect their own health and that of the wider community.

Dr Ed Garratt, executive lead for the ICS, said: “This is an incredible achievement and it’s right that we celebrate this milestone in protecting our population from the virus.

“I would like to thank our dedicated and hard-working health and care staff and volunteers who have been absolutely outstanding during the vaccination programme.

“I am hugely proud that we’ve reached the one million vaccine mark, and am especially pleased that this has been delivered from our mobile vaccination bus which we established specifically to help us reach all members of our communities. It has been a big success.”

“Local teams are doing a great job of inviting people back for their second doses as well, which are really important to give maximum protection from the virus, so please, if you are in one of the eligible groups and haven’t yet taken it up, there is still time.”
